What Are Headsets?
Headsets are the central components of the handlebars that allow you to turn and control the bike with ease. There are different types of bike headsets depending on whether they are threaded, EC or conventional (A-Head), semi-integrated (ZS), or integrated (IS). The difference between them lies in their integration with the handlebars and the number of parts.
▶︎ Threaded Headsets: Made of steel, they are a durable and resistant component. They are the ideal replacement for the headsets of classic bikes, children's bikes, or vintage bicycles.
▶︎ Conventional Non-Threaded Headsets (EC or A-Head): This is the oldest mechanism, which has been functioning smoothly for many years. Made of anodised aluminium, they always maintain a good appearance with a well-finished look.
▶︎ Semi-Integrated Headsets (ZS): This type of headset is very popular in modern cycling. The bearings are housed inside the head tube, resting on metal cups. Available in aluminium or steel, with steel being more durable and aluminium being lighter.
▶︎ Integrated Headsets (IS): The latest evolution in bike headsets. The bearings are integrated within the head tube, and these headsets are lightweight, designed for competitive cycling. They are made for tapered (conical) head tube fittings
