HOW TO CHOOSE BIKE LIGHTS?
Bike lights are essential accessories that provide visibility and safety. To choose the best bike lights, you need to consider the specific needs of each cyclist.
If you’re cycling at night, it is mandatory to use a white front light and a red rear light. When lights are required, cyclists must also wear a reflective garment on interurban roads to ensure they are visible to drivers.
BIKE LIGHTS ACCORDING TO THEIR POSITION
▶︎ Front lights
A front light is a vital safety feature to prevent accidents when cycling at night or at dusk. Front lights must be white and help you see the road while also making you visible to others. They are essential for riding on roads, unlit paths, or in poor visibility conditions such as fog or heavy rain.
▶︎ Rear lights
Rear lights are attached to the seat post and must be red, as this colour is easiest for the human eye to detect. They signal your presence and direction to other road users. When choosing a rear light, ensure it is visible from at least 200 metres. The brighter the light, the more protection it offers, helping to prevent accidents when drivers overtake.
SHOULD YOU USE BIKE LIGHTS DURING THE DAY?
Yes, daytime bike lights are highly recommended, especially in winter, when fog, rain, or cloudy weather can reduce visibility and compromise cyclist safety. Daytime bike lights should flash or emit pulses to make you more noticeable. They must have sufficient lumens and combine different light intensities. To enhance visibility further, consider wearing high-visibility clothing with reflective details.
