Choose the Right Brake Pads for Your Bike
The main function of a brake pad is to generate friction on the wheel rims to stop or slow down the bike. The intensity of braking depends on the pressure applied to the brake levers.
When selecting the brake pad, it's important to know the material of the braking surface of your rim. Depending on the material, you will need to choose a specific type of brake pad to avoid damaging the rim and ensure proper braking performance.
The material of the brake pads must be well-maintained for safe and effective braking.
At Eltin, we offer a wide range of brake pads for bicycles.
How to Choose Brake Pads
When choosing brake pads for your bike, you need to consider:
▶︎ Type of Brake Pads
Classic pads, which are less common in modern sports cycling but remain affordable, or cartridge pads, which are the current standard. The advantage of cartridge pads is that only the rubber part (the cartridge) needs replacing when worn, without the need to adjust the component each time, as the pad holder stays in place on the brake.
▶︎ Rubber Mounting Standards
Compatible with SHIMANO / SRAM or CAMPAGNOLO.
▶︎ Type of Rubber
Depending on the material of your bike’s rims, a specific cartridge should be used. "Classic" pads are for aluminium rims, but there are also special models for carbon, ceramic, or other specific braking surfaces. Be careful not to use "classic" rubber on special rims, as it may damage the pad or, worse, the rim itself.
