Live a unique experience by cycling through some of these proposals

Bikepacking is a unique way of exploring the world on two wheels, and 2025 is the perfect year to set out on new adventures. Here, we present 5 cycling routes that traverse some of the most stunning landscapes in the country. From the heart of nature to forgotten villages, each route offers an unforgettable experience.

The Montañas Vacías route crosses the spectacular and remote landscapes of the Serranía Celtibérica, one of Spain's least-known regions. Covering more than 680 km, it passes through mountains, deep valleys, and small historic villages across the provinces of Teruel, Cuenca, and Guadalajara.

Although the full route is very demanding, with an accumulated elevation gain of 13,000 metres, there are several shortcuts available to significantly reduce the distance.

This route offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in untouched nature, far from urban noise. It’s perfect for cyclists looking to fully disconnect while enjoying scenery of exceptional beauty and tranquillity.

And if that wasn’t enough, the project website also provides other alternative routes, centred around Teruel, including road-only options.

Visit the Montañas Vacías project website for complete information.

The Camí dels Assagadors is a 618 km route through the province of Valencia, connecting Gandía with inland mountain ranges and concluding in Sagunto.

The name of this remarkable route refers to medieval-era drovers’ roads, which formed an extensive network of paths linking various regions. The route is divided into several segments, making it easier to organise your journey.

As previously mentioned, this historic route follows ancient transhumance trails, passing through the Serranía Celtibérica and the Serranía Levantina. Despite beginning and ending in coastal cities at sea level, its inland detour accumulates an elevation gain of 12,540 metres, making it a challenging route best suited for experienced cyclists.

Along the way, you'll encounter steep climbs, with the highest point at 1,586 metres, and, of course, countless stunning landscapes. Carefully plan your water and food supplies, as some stretches lack nearby villages.

The Ibérica Norte route is a cycling itinerary of approximately 550 kilometres, beginning and ending in Ezcaray and traversing La Rioja, with brief forays into Soria, Navarre, and Álava.

It passes through mountainous landscapes such as the Sierra de la Demanda, Cameros, and Cebollera, and crosses the banks of the River Ebro, renowned for its vineyards, offering a blend of adventure cycling and local culture.

The itinerary can be adapted to various skill levels, with five suggested stages allowing adjustments to difficulty and pacing. Most of the route follows forest tracks and minor roads, making it suitable for mountain or gravel bikes.

The route is designed primarily for experienced cyclists, though it can be completed at a relaxed pace. The aim is for cyclists to enjoy the journey, connecting with nature, culture, and the local community. The physical challenge is significant, but the primary objective is to have an authentic experience and leisurely appreciate the surroundings.

You can find all the information required for the route on the promoter's website, La Demanda Cycling.

The Altravesur route is a bikepacking journey crossing southern Spain from Cádiz to Valencia, largely following the GR7 long-distance footpath. Spanning approximately 1,336 km, the route is characterised by 85% unpaved roads and 10% technical singletrack trails, reaching a maximum elevation of 2,135 metres.

This challenging itinerary crosses numerous mountain ranges and natural parks, incorporating sections of cycling circuits such as the TransAndalus and the TransNevada, as well as paths including the GR249, GR243, GR247, and GR66. It also features greenways like the Vía Verde of the Sierra de Alcaraz and the Ruta de Don Quijote.

The Altravesur route provides cyclists with the opportunity to immerse themselves in breathtaking scenery and isolated villages that preserve the rustic charm of Andalucía. The region offers an extensive network of rural tracks and greenways, providing endless combinations for adventure cycling. It's important to highlight that this route is demanding, featuring steep sections and unstable terrain that may require pushing your bike at times.
