WHAT HANDLEBARS GRIPS TO CHOOSE FOR YOUR BIKE?
The primary function of bicycle grips is to ensure a firm grip of the hands on the handlebars, providing comfort and safety. They absorb shocks and prevent discomfort or potential injuries that may occur in the palms of the hands or wrists.

Bicycle grips are only compatible with flat handlebars.

Grips can wear out quickly if you practise an extreme cycling discipline that requires a stronger grip.

To choose the right grips for your bike, you need to consider the discipline you practise and ensure they fit the characteristics of your bike's handlebars.

At Eltin, we offer a wide variety of bike grips, designed with different materials and colours to suit your needs and style.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED FOR GRIPS?

Bicycle grips can be made from various materials, and as mentioned earlier, the choice often depends on the discipline you practise.

▶︎ Rubber Grips
Rubber grips are made from hard, non-slip rubber, offering rigidity and durability.

These grips are mainly used for urban bikes.

▶︎ Silicone Grips
These grips are very affordable and have characteristics similar to rubber grips, making them popular for urban bikes. Different models are available to provide better grip.

▶︎ Gel Grips
Gel grips adapt very well to the shape of your hand and the various pressures exerted during cycling.

They are used in more aggressive disciplines that require greater shock absorption, such as cyclocross or MTB.

▶︎ Ergonomic Grips
These grips provide excellent comfort by optimising the cyclist's hand position and reducing pressure on the hand's nerves, which often causes discomfort. They are designed to alleviate pressure on the ulnar nerve.

Their design is not completely cylindrical; it includes a flatter area to rest part of the palm, allowing for a greater rest during gripping.

These grips are aimed at bikers who spend long hours on the bike and experience hand numbness. With these grips, you can prevent your hands from swelling or experiencing a tingling sensation.

HOW TO CHANGE THE GRIPS ON YOUR BIKE?

Lock-on grips are the easiest to put on and remove, as once the screw is released with an Allen key, they fit and remove perfectly. However, rubber, gel, or silicone grips without locks tend to stick to the handlebars, and their diameter is slightly narrower than the handlebars to ensure they stay in place and don’t move.

To remove this type of grip, the best method is to wet the space between the grip and the handlebars, avoiding getting the outside of the grip wet. Alcohol is better than water or soap for this task. Using a syringe can help you remove them with relative ease.
